renaissance (1) . n ul doute que sa ville natale, royat, y est aussi pour quelque chose. royat, source dinspiration. du fond de sa valle, il pouvait contempler dun ct, le puy de chateix avec son chteau du paradis et de lautre, le prieur fortifi saint lger, difi sur une coule de lave volcanique. tous deux bercrent son enfance de rves chevaleresques. lauvergne influena et grava tout jamais dans son inconscient ces paysages imaginaires, ces montagnes quil aime tant reprsenter et dont il simagine que la chane des puys est une vague venue schouer sur lle du sancy. c omme il le dit souvent, jemporte lauvergne en hritage . rien ny fait, cest une source inpuisable dinspiration. il faut avoir parcouru ces montagnes balayes par les vents pour comprendre cette atmosphre parfois glaciale que lartiste cherche exprimer dans ses uvres en crant volontairement un manque de couleur voire un vide. par souci de se protger, les manoirs sont souvent austres et toujours forms de murs pais retenus par des contreforts. a linverse, avec la renaissance, des chteaux trs lancs souvrent. de modestes glises romanes ou des cathdrales gothiques continuent dinspirer cet ancien enfant de chur, encore imprgn darchitecture religieuse. de pauvres villages se protgent, perdus travers des valles profondes o lon guettait lennemi. des toitures sont rehausses laide de fanions, dtendards ou de pointes qui culminent pour tirer la primaut des lieux. exprimer aussi, noblesse oblige, la supriorit de certains btiments. c es uvres trouvent galement linspiration tant dans lhistoire de la couronne de france que dans linfluence culturelle et cultuelle de la chrtient omniprsente en europe. monique kahn (1). boucheix est un nom dorigine gauloise, issu du peuple des arvernes. originaire de la basse-auvergne, les racines moyengeuses se situent trs prcisment au pied de la chane des puys. les toutes premires traces de ce nom nous sont rvles au 13e sicle sur lactuelle commune des ancizes-comps o, en 1219, la seigneurie du boucheix* qui ne comportait pas de fortification, cda une partie de ses terres pour la fondation de la chartreuse port sainte marie, en ruines de nos jours en 1292, le seigneur du around the fact that it is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. it is necessary to have wandered through these wind-swept mountains in order to fully understand the at times glacial atmosphere the artist aims to recreate in his work by purposely choosing a lack of colour and even emptiness. concerned with the need for protection, the manor houses are often austere and always composed of thick, buttressed walls. conversely, the renaissance heralded the appearance of wide and open chateaux. modest romanesque churches and gothic cathedrals continue to inspire the former choirboy still imbued middle age roots are specific to the foot of the puys mountain range. the very first traces of this name date to the 13th century in what is currently the commune of ancizes-comps where in 1219 the manor of boucheix*, which had no fortification, yielded some of its land for the foundation of chartreuse port sainte marie, which today stands in ruins in 1292, the lord of boucheix reserved the
